Week 15
The readings for this week sum up the topics we have covered in the the class over the term and address the issues that remain to be resolved for digital libraries. As one of the articles, written by Joseph Stiglitz, discusses, the current copyright regime is extremely restrictive concerning the use of digital material. That could certainly have a significant impact on the cultural record of this time as materials that lose economic value are neglected by copyright holders. This situation possibly might make the current orphan works problem with analog materials seem trivial. The preservation issue only complicates this matter.
